Top Movies to Stream at Christmas

It’s one tradition we can all probably relate to - after all, there’s no better way to relax than watching a festive film with your loved ones.

We asked the nation how they plan to watch their favourite Christmas films this holiday and nearly half (42%) plan to use broadband to stream films on demand, catch up TV or on services such as Netflix.

We surveyed more than 2,000* people across the UK and the list below shows the Top 10 Christmas films that will be streamed this holiday, click here for the the full list and where to stream these. We've also summarised the top five and what each film is about to help you decide which one you’ll watch first.

5. Love Actually

There’s nothing like a good Christmas romcom, and that’s why Love Actually takes fifth place. The drama revolves around 10 loosely intertwined tales of love. It’s not all soppy stuff, though. There are plenty of bittersweet stories too, including ones of unrequited love and adultery. Being a festive film, the tangled tales take place in the hectic weeks leading up to Christmas, concluding a month afterwards.

Love Actually has an age rating of 12, so you’ll be okay to watch it with older kids. The stellar cast includes Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley and Rowan Atkinson. However, you’ll need to get extra popcorn in as Love Actually is almost two-and- a-half hours long. Although it has its charm, this Yuletide romcom may be too slushy for some. That’s probably why this 2003 film has a good but not great Rotten Tomatoes rating of 63%.

4. The Grinch

The Grinch managed to nab the number four spot for the films being streamed this holiday. Also known by its full title of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this fun family comedy will transport you to the fantasy world of Whoville. The people that live there are huge fans of Christmas, but an evil creature called the Grinch lives nearby, and he hates the festive season. He’s also got a grudge against the Whoville residents, so he decides to ruin Christmas for them. However, one little girl feels sorry for the Grinch and tries to make friends with him.

Kids will love this movie and with a PG rating, it’s suitable for the whole family. Made in 2000, The Grinch is still the second highest-grossing Christmas movie ever and one of the top movies to stream at Christmas.

Who doesn’t love a golden oldie at Christmas? Taking third place, It’s a Wonderful Life has become a firm festive favourite. Considered one of the greatest movies of all time, the comedy-drama tells the inspirational story of selfless businessman, George. When life throws yet another a low blow at George and he becomes suicidal, an angel steps in. Over the course of Christmas Eve, the angel shows George exactly how things would be if he’d never been born.

Even though it was made in 1946, this classic film never gets old. It’s a Wonderful Life is suitable for all your family and friends as it has a U age rating. Rotten Tomatoes rate this Christmas movie a brilliant 94%.
