A show of power

First Utility and Motionhouse in partnership

Energy. Our levels of it may vary, but it’s essential in our day to day lives. In partnership with First Utility, dance-circus company Motionhouse are set to show how it drives the human race. From the electrical charge that sparks our birth to its use in the generation of memories and more. ‘Charge’, the show the company is currently creating about energy, is almost complete and it’s set to be an electrifying show.

Creating Charge

With a name like Motionhouse and an ethos of pushing movement to its limits, it’s no wonder the company’s next production takes on the epic energy of all humankind. The ground-breaking multimedia show involves six performers who use acrobatics and dance to interpret the powerful tale of the energy in our lives. Digital projections bring to life the story of ‘Charge’ onstage. Generated images and dancers interact fluidly to reenact not just the story of energy in our bodies, but for humans as energy manipulators.

The science behind Charge

First Utility aren’t the only ones partnered with Motionhouse to make Charge a reality. The company has been working with scientists from the University of Oxford to learn more about electricity within the human body to inspire the show. Charge is the final element in the ‘Earth Trilogy’, building on themes explored in previous shows, which explored our connection with water and the Earth.

Who are Motionhouse?

Founded back in 1988 by Louise Richards and Kevin Finnan MBE, Motionhouse have a reputation for well-reviewed dance-circus productions performed around the world. Large on-stage spectacles have previously involved dancers performing alongside giant Jenga blocks or JCB diggers. Motionhouse aren’t solely focussed on their current crop of talented stars. They also deliver a diverse range of training projects for the next generation, at their studio in Leamington Spa and further afield.
