Meet some of the team

Meet Andy : Technical Operations Project Manager

“From project management and process analysis to ensuring smooth customer registrations, my current role is so dynamic and varied that each day brings its own unique challenge and rewards.

It is very easy when working in IT to take on a specific role and stay in it for a whole career without seeing what its like from the other sides of IT and the business. First Utility has given me the opportunity to get involved in every aspect of IT that has ever interested me. As my career develops First Utility has given me the skills and experience to tackle any task that comes my way with complete confidence.”

Meet Claire : Feed In Tariffs Team Leader

“There are a lot of good aspects to my role. I am the Feed In Tariffs Team Leader and so I am heavily involved in administering the Feed In Tariffs Scheme for First Utility on behalf of Ofgem and raising the profile of these tariffs across the company. This scheme is for small micro generators who are producing electricity through renewable technology, for example by solar PV panels.

This is a fast moving company that’s always looking for new initiatives. I enjoy being able to take the lead in an area, make decisions and seeing these in action. The atmosphere within the company is always friendly and people are always willing to take on board your advice.”

Meet Graeme : User Acceptance Testing Manager

“The best aspect of my current role is being able to use the latest technologies to innovate and implement robust automated testing strategies. A large part of my role involves co-ordinating the testing of new system functionality. This allows me to engage with many different colleagues across the business. Being able to help UAT testers put a mark of quality on tested functionality is a rewarding experience.

Working at First Utility is always very exciting and rewarding. I enjoy working with all the latest technologies and the great people make it a joy to get up in the morning and come to work.”

Meet Steve : Smart Service Delivery Manager

“I love the personal challenge of being Smart Service Delivery Manager and being responsible for making sure my team deliver excellent service.

The open layout of the office allows you to talk to people in a very relaxed yet professional manner. No one in the company is just a number, everyone has a key role to play in the success of First Utility. The company encourages its employees to create a enjoyable working environment and to create a real bond between its members to create a great team ethos.”

Meet Neil : Management Accountant

“I love the variety that my job brings with most days being different to the last! I have recently moved into a more analytical role, forecasting the business’ cash flow and looking at the budget for teams within First Utility.

It is also worth noting that First Utility were instrumental in helping me to achieve my CIMA Accountancy qualification in June 2011. Not only were First Utility good enough to sponsor me through my studies, I was also given the appropriate study leave in order to help me pass the exams. Being given the freedom to study in line with my job role has been great.

Easy, the people! It is an extremely dynamic environment to work in and the company seems to change on a daily basis but there is a fantastic bunch of people at First Utility. Regular social events, whether that be within your team or as a company mean you get plenty of time to get to know one another, which I believe makes the office environment pretty decent.

I also love the banter that we have, especially between the football lot on a Wednesday night; it makes working together that little bit easier.”

Meet Nicole : Process & Systems Controller

“My role has changed vastly since I joined the company in March 2010. I have moved from general administration to a more supportive and technical role, where I enjoy working to improve processes and report on how these are affecting the business day-to-day. It really helps you see how hard other departments work to keep everything ticking over.

There is always space for you to progress if you put your mind to it. If you work hard and show your potential you won’t get lost in the crowd, you will be given the opportunity to shine.”
