How soon after my smart meter is installed can I view my usage online?
After your smart meter has been installed you will normally be able to view your electricity and gas usage 48 hours later.
I have logged onto my online account but I can’t see my usage?
If you have only just had your smart meter installed this may be because there has been a delay in setting the communication link up. We aim to have all customer usage data available online within 48 hours of your meter being installed but this process can take longer. If you still cannot view your usage one week after your smart meter installation please email customer.services@first-utility.com and we will get a member of our technical services team to investigate.
If you are an existing customer that regular views your online usage this may be due to a communications failure. Just like a mobile phone, there are occasions when the signal from your smart meter fails. This is temporary and full visibility will be restored. This will not affect your usage data as the meter stores reads for up to 40 days.
Why isn’t my gas usage showing every half hour?
It is only your electricity data that will be displayed half hourly. Gas is shown daily.
Is there a way of viewing my electricity usage without going online?
Yes. You could purchase an Energy Monitoring Unit for £35. This is is a remote, digital m
onitor that works independently of the smart meter. This device will provide you with a quick estimated view on how much electricity you use at certain times of the day, how much it costs and the level of C02 your household is emitting. This is not a smart meter and is not 100% accurate. However it is useful for highlighting where you can cut down on your electricity – you’ll be surprised at just how much power it takes to boil a kettle or run halogen spot lights in your kitchen!
