First Utility adds gas to its smart metered energy offering to become the cheapest standard dual fuel tariff
Independent energy company, First Utility, today announced it is adding gas to its UK-wide energy offering to become the cheapest dual fuel provider for all UK households. Its standard tariff now undercuts all of the Big Six energy companies.
This follows on from last month’s announcement that First Utility was the first – and as yet only – energy company to bring down its electricity prices following falling wholesale prices in order to pass on price cuts to the consumer.
In addition, consumers will be able to save up to a further 15% on their annual bill when combined with the benefits of the smart meter – which First Utility offer to all of their customers as standard – again, another UK first.
First Utility launched its domestic service in September 2008 to take on the Big Six and provide customers with a better and more innovative alternative when it comes to energy supply in the UK. It is leading the way in the pricing reductions arena with the cheapest standard tariff. first:utility are now contracted to provide over 6,000 homes with their energy supply, many attracted by the ‘smart meter as standard’ proposition that the company offers to empower people to better manage their bills and energy consumption.
First Utility Chief Executive, Mark Daeche, said: “With the launch of the gas supply, first:utility now offers consumers a real alternative to the Big Six. Whilst the government puts pressure on the Big Six to lower prices and introduce smart metering, we have already done both.”
“Our offer of the cheapest standard dual fuel rate combined with the smart meter is going to answer a lot of UK consumers’ needs for a price efficient dual fuel tariff that provides simple-to-use and effective energy management.
“As an independent player outside of the ‘Big Six’, we are a nimble organisation which is able to respond quickly to the fluctuating market conditions, and pass on real benefits to consumers.
First Utility believe that UK energy customers deserve a more innovative and modern alternative to the ‘Big Six’ and are committed to delivering this to UK households.”
First Utility’s smart meters take readings every 30 minutes which are sent back to first:utility’s billing centre on a daily basis using the mobile (GPRS) network, accordingly, all of our customer invoices are 100% accurate. Price changes are passed on accurately and in a timely fashion and customers are never over charged.
Along with the unique smart meter offering, first:utility also introduced to the market a three-rate tariff as opposed to the standard two, to provide greater flexibility and choice for people looking to take advantage of off-peak usage. The cost of First Utility’s smart meter installation is now only £49 for electricity and £99 for dual fuel.
