Independent Gas Transporters

If you are supplied by an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT) it means that the gas in your home is connected via pipes owned by an IGT's network. IGTs own and operate gas distribution networks (pipes) which are independent to the national networks owned by National Grid, Scotia Gas Networks, Northern Gas Networks and Wales and West Utilities.

Questions about independent gas transporters

Do First Utility supply customers on IGT networks?

We offer supply to any domestic customer connected to the mains gas network. However, gas connections owned by IGTs sometimes attract additional charges. For this reason we are currently not able to offer our online deals (smart or iSave tariffs) to domestic customers on IGT networks. If your previous supplier served you via an IGT network then you can find that the price you paid them for gas was slightly higher than their standard published price. If your home is on an IGT network we would be happy to offer you an alternative tariff.

How do I know if I am supplied by an IGT network?

You can find out if you are supplied by an IGT network by looking at a recent gas bill. If you are supplied by an IGT your MPRN (meter point reference number - unique to your home) will start with 74, 75 or 76 and will be 10 digits long. For more information on MPRNs please visit the MPRN / MPAN help and advice page.

Can I get my supply moved over to a National Grid network?

No. If you are supplied by an IGT then they own and manage the pipes that bring the gas to your house.
