First Utility are the first of the UK electric suppliers to roll out smart meters to UK households. Currently available in the East and West Midlands, our smart tariff comes complete with one of our cutting edge smart meters free of charge.
Our meters automatically submit electricity readings to us every half and gas daily. This information is then made available to the customer via a personal online account where they can view usage graphs and look at their latest and previous bills. We are the first of the UK electric suppliers to offer this level of visibility of a home’s energy consumption. We strongly believe that by monitoring and understanding this detailed information, consumers can make simple yet significant changes to their energy usage, cutting their annual bill and helping to protect the environment, something that other electric suppliers are not offering.
Some electric suppliers offer customers a home display or energy monitoring unit. An energy monitoring unit is a remote, digital monitor that works independently of your smart or standard meter. Energy monitoring units provide a visible, quick estimated view of how much electricity you use at certain times of the day. They also display how much you are paying and the level of CO2 your household is emitting.
An energy monitoring unit can be useful for managing your energy usage, however it should not be confused with a smart meter. A smart meter is the only way to see your accurate energy usage and put an end to estimated billing.
Customers with one of our meters can also sign up to Google PowerMeter. Google PowerMeter allows you to view your usage via your iGoogle homepage from any internet enabled device. There are no other UK electric suppliers who can offer you this.
We will be rolling our meters out throughout the UK during 2010, if you want to be one of the first to benefit from our popular smart meters switch electric suppliers today. If you are based in the East or West Midlands you can sign up to our smart tariff and receive a free meter. If you are based elsewhere in the UK you can sign up to our iSave tariff, and ensure you’re the first to know when they become available in your area.
