Business smart meters
- A business smart meter takes automatic readings of your energy usage
- It sends the readings to First Utility via a mobile communications link
- We make your energy usage data available to view online
- You receive an accurate monthly energy bill
Why is a smart meter smart?
A business smart meter is smarter than current digital and mechanical meters because it does not need to be read by a person. Business smart meters take automatic readings of your energy usage, and send the readings via a mobile communications link to your energy company, who use this data to produce an accurate gas and electricity bill.

Questions about business smart meters
- How do I save money on my business energy bills by having a smart meter installed?
-
Once your smart meter is installed your electricity usage data will be available through our secure online portal and you will receive accurate monthly bills based on actual use, preventing any over-charging or costly reconciliation.
You can also utilise the online portal to review your energy use across the day. You will be able to identify where energy is wasted and how you can change your behaviour to reduce this waste, eg ensuring your staff turn their computers off at night. Comparisons day to day, week to week and month to month will show you how changes that you have made have reduced your usage and saved you monthly. Your monthly bill will also highlight reductions in energy consumption.
Once your smart meter has been installed for a 12 month period we can help you to identify areas where you would benefit from a change in tariff. We offer single-rate, two-rate or three-rate tariffs to businesses. This means you can benefit from having up to three different rates to suit your usage requirements. A change to a different tariff can save 10% of your annual energy bill.
