Who are first:utility?
We are an energy company with a difference. We want to help you understand and manage your energy consumption, reduce your carbon footprint, and ensure you receive accurate bills.
What is so exciting about energy? you ask. Well, quite a lot actually! We are at the forefront of some very big changes in the energy industry and we are being smart about looking after our customers.
Our aim is to revolutionise an industry suffering from poor customer service and poor practices such as estimated billing. We put customers back in control with accurate, transparent billing delivered by innovative smart meter technology.
Leading the way with smart meters in the UK
In May 2009, the UK Government recently set a target to install smart meters in every home by 2020. At first:utility we are already supplying homes with electricity and gas plus a free smart meter, starting in the East and West Midlands. The rest of the UK will follow throughout 2010.
We also supply 2,000 businesses across the UK, ranging from SMEs to large companies with hundreds of our meters installed across their sites and offices.

We also have great relations with many of the country’s top house builders, such as Miller Homes, Bovis Homes and David Wilson Homes, working with them to supply new homes with smart meters.

A history of accurate billing
You may already know us. Previously, we traded under the name first:telecom, and we have been a competitive telecoms provider since 1994, with a customer base of more than 50,000. Visit our telecom website for more information
Our proven success in servicing a large customer base in the telecoms industry – an industry dedicated to accurate billing - meant that we were in an ideal position to expand to other utilities. We chose to leverage our expertise in billing and customer service in to the energy industry, serving residential and business customers alike.
Based at our headquarters in Warwick, first:utility launched in September 2008 offering consumers a genuine alternative to the poor service and lack of competitiveness that exists in the energy market.
